Earth Day is everyday!
Everyday is Earth Day! As humans, we are lucky enough to exist on the only sphere in our solar system that can sustain life. Every living thing on earth is made of amino acids, which can be found hurtling through space riding on comets. Comets are composed of rock, dust, and ice and it is within this cosmic dust, preserved by ice, that the amino acids survive. How did life begin you wonder? Perhaps these comets found their way to earth, crashed, and our environment was hospitable enough to allow the amino acids that traveled so far through space, a place of refuge and a climate mild enough for them to survive and flourish. I propose to you that every living thing on earth is born of stars. We as humans are brothers with the plants and animals that share this great sphere with us. Moreover, I feel humans are guardians of this great earth. Some people believe that it is humans’ destiny to control and command all aspects of life, to kill without regard to other living things’ rights, to pollute and build cities and factories all in the name of progress and human consumption. To those arrogant humans I say “Bullshit!” Look at your actions and question, “Is this how a guardian of the Earth is to live?”
To take life without need is selfish and immoral. To build without regard to the land and its inhabitants is greedy and immoral. Stop – and think. There is a better way to live. Are you strong enough to break old habits of the past and learn a new way of life?
